A very important priority of the Department is research, basic and applied, which is supported with competitive greek and european funds. The excellence in research is reflected by numerous highly cited articles published in high impact factor journals.

In total, 915 articles (Scopus) affiliated with the Department have been published since its establishment. The average number of publications per year is 42.
In 2022, the average number of publications per faculty member is 4 with an average impact factor of 3.97.
Research Citations
The Department’s average annual number of citations is 892 and their total number is approximately 19,600 (Scopus).
Research Funding
The research of the Department is supported with competitive funds which amount to 10 million euros during the last five years. More than 60% of the funding originate from the EU.
