A very important priority of the Department is research, basic and applied, which is supported with competitive greek and european funds. The excellence in research is reflected by numerous highly cited articles published in high impact factor journals.

Research Publications

In total, 1763 articles (Scopus) affiliated with the Department have been published since its establishment. The average number of publications per year is 70.

In 2025, the average number of publications per faculty member is 3.7 with an average impact factor of 5.02.

Research Citations

The Department’s average annual number of citations is 2.432 and their total number exceeds 60.000 (Scopus).

Research Funding

The research of the Department is supported by competitive funds which amount to 11.7 million euros during the last five years. More than 60% of the funding originated from the EU.
