Certificate in Education

The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, according to article 111 of Law 4547/18, the decision of the Department Assembly (84th/ meeting of 17.10.18) and the decision of the Senate of the University of Thessaly (207/ meeting of 26.10.18), grants “Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy” to graduates, provided that they fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Attendance and successful examination of the following five courses:
    1. Anthropology of Education and Modern Pedagogical Trends (Elective / 3 ECTS)
    2. Theory of Teaching and Didactics of Biosciences (Elective / 3 ECTS)
    3. Bioethics and Education (Elective / 3 ECTS)
    4. Introductory Informatics and Computational Management of large scale data (Compulsory / 5 ECTS)
    5. Biostatistics (Compulsory / 6 ECTS)
  2. Attendance and successful examination of two of the following five courses:
    1. Evolution of Ideas in Biological Sciences (Elective / 3 ECTS)
    2. Synthetic Biology (Elective / 4 ECTS)
    3. Neuroscience & Behavior (Elective / 4 ECTS)
    4. Drugs in sport: Drugs, antidoping, international regulations, WADA research (Elective / 3 ECTS)
    5. Nutritional & Metabolic Biochemistry (Elective / 5 ECTS).

The total ECTS of the required courses for the “Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy” is between 26-29.

The “Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy” is also awarded to former graduates of the Department, under the following procedure: Graduates submit an application to the Secretariat of the Department (in printed or electronic form) in order to enroll and participate in exams of the above courses that they have not attended during their studies. Each year, up to 10 graduates will be selected based on the highest degree. The application period is from 1st to 15th of June of each year.

Dr. Vassilios Pantazis is in charge for the issues related to the Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy of the Department. He is also the instructor of the pedagogical lectures in all the courses that are required for the Certificate.
