Honorary Event for Professor Ioannis V. RAGOUSIS
The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology organizes an honorary event for the conferment of Professor Ioannis V. Ragousis, as an Honorary Doctor. The ceremony will take place on Monday 16 September 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the “Hippocrates” Amphitheater of Biopolis, Larissa.
Dr. Ioannis Ragousis is an internationally renowned and distinguished scientist with excellent research in the field of genomics and transcriptomy, with a leading role in single-cell genomics. Today, Mr. Ragousis is Head of Genome Sciences at McGill University’s Genome Center and Professor of Human Genetics, the Department of Human Genetics and Department of Bio-engineering at McGill University. Mr. Ragoussis obtained his PhD in Biochemistry, Immunology, and Genetics at the University of Tübingen, Germany, and since then has a 40-year career in genomics. Since moving to the University of McGill in 2013, he has created genomic analysis facilities first implemented in Quebec and developed genomics of individual cells, long-read sequencing in the form of Nanopore and PacBio Sequel, as well as Hi-C approaches to de novo genome sequencing. He founded an Advanced Genomic Technologies laboratory in 2020, which plays a leading role in the genome sequencing project of SARS-CoV-2 in Quebec (CovSeQ). He is Head of Genome Sciences and Virus Sequencing on the CoVaRR-Net Network and chairs the CovSeQ Sequencing Committee. He has published more than 280 articles in the field of genomics.

will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly.
