Physiology II

Content – Aim of the course

The course aims to cover the fundamentals of systemic physiology of animals in general. Structure and function of various systems (nervous, endocrine, genital, etc.) is discussed.

  • THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM.
  • THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.
  • THE KIDNEYS AND THEIR FUNCTION.
  • THERMOREGULATION.
  • PHYSIOLOGY OF MUSCLE CELLS.
  • GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM.

Tutorials

  1. Classification of hormones according to their chemical structure.
  2. Hormones of thyroid gland. Hormones of parathyroid gland. Regulation of concentration of calcium ions in the blood plasma.
  3. Hormones of epinephrines. Hormones of stress response.
  4. Hormones of pancreas. Regulation of insulin secretion. Hypoinsulinism and hyperinsulinism (diabetes mellitus).
  5. Male reproductive system. Physiological role and regulation of androgen secretion.
  6. Female reproductive system. Physiological role and regulation of oestrogen secretion. Projection of educational film regarding the development of human embryo.
  7. Anatomy and function of respiratory system.
  8. Anatomy and function of urinary system.
  9. Anatomy and function of digestive system.
  10. Structure of skeletal muscles. Molecular mechanism of muscle contraction.

Assessment

Students are evaluated on the basis of their performance in the final written exam.
