Computational Biology Infrastructure

On 2018 the DBB has deployed a server for covering the computational needs, mainly of the laboratories of: «Plant and Environmental Biotechnology», «Molecular Biology and Genomics», «Genetic and Comparative Evolutionary Biology» and «Structural and Functional Biochemistry». The computing power of the server reaches 88 logical cores (two central processing units – CPUs – of INTEL XEON GOLD 6152 2.1GHZ 22c/44t) based on hyperthreading technology for parallel data processing, and 512 GB of RAM (DDR4). Moreover, the server uses 1 TB solid state drive (SSD SATA III) storage where the operative system (currently Ubuntu 18.04 flavour of Linux) and the programs sit, and 16 TB of space in internal HDDs (SATA III) for temporary data storage. Finally, the server graphics card is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti D5 4GB GV-N105TD5-4GD with the ability of providing an extra 768 virtual CUDA cores in case of software support.
