Educational visit with hands-on activity for secondary school students

High school students from various schools in Thessaly, visited the Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology, in University of Thessaly, Viopolis campus, Larissa, during the week 3rd -7th of February 2025.

In the context of the outreach and liaison with society and as part of the celebrations for its 25th anniversary, the Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology welcomed 340 students from 10 high schools in Thessaly.

The aim of the event ‘Young Biochemists’ was to allow high school students to familiarize themselves with chemical reactions and enzymes and to be informed about proper nutrition using 10 different interactive games that were invented and performed by students of the department. Additionally, we aimed to clarify current knowledge related to modern nutrition.

The design and performance of the interactive games, during their training for the Pedagogical and Teaching qualifications, was done by the students: Aggeli Aikaterini, Anastasiadou Aikaterini, Anastasiadou Xanthippi, Grinia Dimitra, Efraimidi Paulina-Kleoniki, Zachopoulos Dimitrios, Zissopoulou Pantelia, Karagiannaki Ioanna, Karkanaki Androniki, Kiavouridou Afentoula, Kioussis Ioannis, Kotsifaki Anna, Koutsouba Dimitra, Kotoula Sotiria, Lekosi Georgia, Lias Ioannis, Messa Kalliopi, Moditsi Maria, Nikolaidou Anthi, Nikolaidou Eleni, Ntinis Spyridon, Pazara Anna-Maria, Papadopoulou Anastasia, Papaevaggelou Konstantina, Poupounaki Emmanouela, Rozi Christina, Sakellariou Georgia, Sameli Paraskevi, Skarlat Laoura-Viorika, Stergiou Konstantina-Domniki, Stravogianni Paraskeui, Tamvakoglou Euaggelia, Tinga Anastasia, Topalidou Sousana, Tsalouhos Spyros, Tsapalou Eleni, Tsinoglou Marina, Charistopoulou Konstantia.
